My passion for writing poetry was re-ignited in 1997. I will never forget that moment. Kneeling over a carpeted stairway while vacuuming, it suddenly happened. Words took over my being as if I was sun bathing on a beach. Ignoring what was happening was not an option because the words would not let me go. I grabbed pen and paper and began to write. Regrettably, I cannot recall the expression I gave birth to, however God has allowed me to write hundreds of pieces since that moment.
Whenever I shared a selection with family and friends, each time I was asked the same question – “when are you going to do something with your work?” My response was always the same – “In time, when the time is right.”
New Year’s Eve 2007, I heard a pastor preach about “singing your song”. That phrase changed my life. I knew I had my own song to sing, but “life” kept getting in the way, or perhaps I kept allowing it to get in the way. Either way, one thing was certain – time was not waiting on me.
The poetic expression “Time waits for no one! … and why should it”, was written on October 15, 1998. It embodies the notion that we all have a purpose that is directly related to honoring God – the opportunity He gives us to “sing our unique songs”. Regardless of where you are in life, just know, time will not wait for you. And since it will not, be very intentional about how you spend your time, because there is purpose in every minute.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT
